Sydney Living Museums encourages the reproduction of images of its properties and collections. In order to ensure that integrity of the reproductions is maintained, publishers are required to comply with certain terms and conditions.

Where a work is in copyright, the user is required to obtain permission to reproduce from the copyright holder or their legal representative, and provide a copy of the permission to Sydney Living Museums before an image can be released. We will endeavour to assist with contact details where possible.

Publications, multimedia and products

Sydney Living Museums can supply high resolution digital images for reproduction:

  • in printed materials (including books, journals, magazines),
  • in electronic formats (including television and film productions),
  • and for products (including calendars, greeting cards).

Sydney Living Museums can supply low resolution digital images for electronic reproduction (including websites, enewsletters, apps).

To order photographic materials for reproduction please complete and return the Permission to reproduce application form: Publications and Multimedia.

Please refer to: Photographic sales reproduction fees for material costs and reproduction and publication fees. Please note: concession rates are available for educational and scholarly uses, and in certain instances fees may be reduced or waived at the discretion of Sydney Living Museums. Fees will be quoted upon receipt of an application.

Images will be delivered electronically (by either FTP or email) unless otherwise requested.  Images burnt to CD and delivered by post will incur delivery charges.

Research and study

Low resolution images of Sydney Living Museums collections for private research, reference and study purposes or for presentations, are made available free of charge. High resolution images incur a supply fee of $44 (incl GST).

Images can be downloaded from the website via the Pictures Collection Catalogue.

Display prints

If you would like a copy of a work from one of Sydney Living Museums collections for personal use only (eg to display in your home, business or office), high resolution digital scans can be supplied to create a print to your own specifications.

Scans will be delivered electronically by FTP.

We cannot supply scans for reproductions of works that are owned by third parties or works that are still in copyright.
