NEWS, OCTOBER 2008

I am very pleased to announce that Kate Clark has been appointed Director of the HHT and will take up her position on 20 October 2008.

Kate is an Australian who has been living in the UK since the early 1980s. She has strong family connections in Sydney and has been a regular visitor here. She is a graduate in archaeology and anthropology and has published widely in the areas of public heritage, conservation planning, industrial archaeology, world heritage and cultural heritage policy. Director of a heritage consultancy, Kate is the Director of her own heritage consultancy, Kate Clark Associates, and has held positions including Head of Historic Heritage Management for English Heritage (1993– 2002) and Deputy Director of Policy and Research at the Heritage Lottery Fund (2002– 2007).

As the Director of the HHT Kate will be the organisation’s representative on the Members Executive Committee. I look forward to working with Kate and learning from her experiences with membership organisations in the UK. I hope to give you the opportunity of meeting Kate at a Members event soon.

We also welcome new HHT sponsor Percy Marks, who have generously signed a three year agreement to support the HHT’s exhibitions and major events program. Percy Marks, Australia’s oldest family jeweller, invite you to view archival pieces and historic photographs from the
family’s private collection at a special HHT Members event. Details of this special opportunity can be found in this issue of your newsletter.

The Members office and Lounge at The Mint will be closed from 24 December 2008 and will reopen on Monday 5 January 2009. Let me take this opportunity on behalf of the staff and volunteers to wish you a joyous festive season and a very happy new year.

Warm wishes,

Judy Pittaway | General Manager
