Over the past 15 years, the Historic Houses Trust has catalogued, conserved and repaired the furniture, soft furnishings and collections to ensure that they are in excellent condition. We have also worked closely with NSW Public Works and the Royal Botanic Gardens, to maintain and repair the buildings and care for the gardens in order to ensure that the building and grounds can be used for a wide range of functions without compromising their historic integrity.
In 2007 we undertook an innovative program to refurbish the State Rooms. Five leading Australian artists and designers were invited to create contemporary elements that would complement the historic interiors and at the same time showcase the best of modern craftsmanship.
There is an ongoing conservation programme at Government House. Repairs to the Eastern Terrace Path stonework have just been completed and we have been restoring the historic tiles in the Outer Hall.
