Meet some of the first people of this land, the Cadigal, whose ancestors lived in and around Sydney Cove – Warrane – for thousands of years before the First Fleet entered Port Jackson. Learn about a pre-contact way of life that sustained people on this continent for 40,000 years.

Walk through the ‘Edge of the Trees’ sculpture and hear Aboriginal voices call out their clan and place names. Discover embedded shells, fish bones, and ochre that evoke the way Aboriginal people lived in this place before the British came. As you travel through the museum, you will encounter artifacts, paintings, film and soundscapes that evoke contemporary Aboriginal perspectives on our past.

In Cadigal Place, watch the film ‘Eora’, which so beautifully brings to life the ongoing Aboriginal connection with this place called Sydney.
