Glenn Murcutt: architecture for place floor talks
Lectures & Talks; Architecture

Free floor talks featuring professional peers and clients of Glenn Murcutt, who will discuss the work of this great Australian award winning architect in the exhibition space.
Sunday 2 August – Richard Leplastrier
Richard Leplastrier is a seminal figure in Australian architecture and architectural education. He received national recognition in 1999 through the award of the Gold Medal of the Australian Institute of Architects, and received international recognition through receipt of the 2004 ‘Spirit of Nature Wood Architecture Award’. The award, established in Finland by the Wood in Culture Association, is granted every second year for architectural excellence. Other recipients of the award have been internationally acclaimed architects Renzo Piano (Italy), Kengo Kuma (Japan) and Peter Zumthor (Switzerland).
Sunday 9 August – Henric Nicholas, Murcutt client
The Nicholas House (1977-80) in Mount Irvine, NSW, was designed within the constraints of the relatively isolated site – standard building components and techniques were employed to enable it to be built by one man. Designed as two parallel pavilions joined along their horizontal axis, the house and verandah incorporate the distant views to the east. The curved treatment of the rear corrugated iron roof shields the cold winds blowing down slope, whilst illuminating the continuous interior with soft ambient light.
