Domestic arts: knitting the house

Lectures & Talks

Guerrilla Knitting is the ‘graffiti’ of the knitting world. Guerilla knitters cover everyday outdoor objects to make our world a more colourful and cosy place. Vaucluse House is working with Sydney artist Denise Litchfield to create guerrilla knitting installations, culminating in an exhibition throughout the house.

Join our guerrilla knitting club and transform parts of Vaucluse House. The group will meet once a fortnight over three months for a number of interventions that will surprise and inspire visitors to the property. First session includes a tour of the house, followed by hands-on activity and refreshments.

Participants must have some working knowledge of how to cast on and off, as well as how to knit and purl stitches.

Participants must bring their own wool and needles to use and/or to contribute to the wool 'trash and treasure' table (this is where participants swap and trade wool with others), a measuring tape and a camera for taking pictures of their chosen project.

On Sunday 20 June there will be an opening of the display of the pieces/interventions and prizes awarded for the best knits.
