Fighting for Indigenous rights 1920-1970
This exhibition tells the story of a group of Australians, Indigenous and non-Indigenous, who said 'That's not good enough' – and did something about it. The exhibition tells some uncomfortable truths and celebrates some 'ordinary extraordinary' heroes. This is the time where some Australians did not have the same freedoms as everybody else. They were the First Australians, made second-class citizens in their own country. This is unknown history to many non-Aboriginal people and even possibly to young Aboriginal Australians. But it’s painfully familiar to most Aboriginal people. This is a moment to share our common history and celebrate some courageous Australians.
A travelling exhibition developed and presented by the National Museum of Australia
This exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, an Australian Government program aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.
